The Chicago area could be in for a stormy summer holiday week.
The National Weather Service issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Kane County until 7:45 p.m., and Cook, Lake and DuPage counties until 8:15 p.m. Tuesday.
The day started mostly sunny, warm and humid but turned cloudy by the early afternoon, staying hot with highs between 88 and 93 degrees and heat index readings possibly reaching up to 100 degrees.
Scattered storms developed in the afternoon and were expected to become more numerous in the evening, with heavy rain and isolated severe storms possible. Any showers and storms should taper off and end by midnight for partly cloudy, mild and humid conditions overnight.

Wednesday looks to be partly sunny, very warm with highs in the mid to upper 80s and humid with periodic scattered showers and storms in the afternoon and evening. A few strong storms with heavy rain will be possible.
The Fourth of July itself will also likely see periods of showers and storms throughout the day, and remain warm and humid with highs between 85 and 90 degrees.
The following day will be partly sunny and still warm and humid once again, with highs in the mid to upper 80s though temperatures could fall midday. The chance for scattered showers and storms remains on Friday and heading into the weekend.

Saturday could see a bit of a reprieve in temperatures, with highs in the low to mid 80s, but again there's a chance for isolated showers and storms, mainly along and south of I-80.
We'll end the weekend on a pleasant note, with partly to mostly sunny conditions on Sunday, which looks to be cooler and less humid with highs in the upper 70s and low 80s inland but cooler by the lake.
And while it may be brutal heading back to work Monday, at least the Chicago area will see some nice weather, with continued pleasant conditions, partly sunny with low humidity and highs in the low 80s, cooler by the lake.
