6 Group Shootings Kill 3, Injure 28 in 7 Hours of Violent Chicago Weekend

A violent weekend in Chicago left at least 11 people dead and 62 others wounded in shootings across the city, according to police.

Amid the bloodshed, authorities said six incidents on Sunday morning each wounded four or more people at one time.

Those shootings, which all took place over the course of less than seven hours, killed 3 people and injured 28 more, officials said.

Those group incidents, according to police, occurred as follows:

At around 12:02 a.m., one man and three teenagers were shot in the 1600 block of South Avers Avenue in the city’s Lawndale neighborhood, officials said. They were at a block party when two people fired shots into the crowd from inside a white Chevrolet Impala before fleeing the scene, according to police. Authorities said a 13-year-old boy was shot twice in the right arm, a 16-year-old boy was shot in the buttocks and a 17-year-old girl suffered graze wounds to the arm and knee. All were taken to Mount Sinai Medical Center in stable condition, officials said, while a 25-year-old man shot in the left leg was taken to Stroger Hospital in stable.

Roughly 30 minutes later, six teenagers were among eight people wounded in a shooting in the Gresham neighborhood, according to police. The shooting took place at around 12:39 a.m. in the 1300 block of West 76th Street, officials said. All eight victims were standing in the courtyard of a building when several male offenders approached on foot and opened fire, officials said. A 17-year-old girl was shot in the left knee, another 17-year-old girl was shot in the left leg, while a 14-year-old girl and a 19-year-old woman were both shot in their left hands, officials said. A 21-year-old woman and a 19-year-old man were both shot in their left legs, according to police, who said an 18-year-old man was shot in the buttocks and a 35-year-old man suffered a graze wound to the head as well. All of the victims were taken to area hospitals in stable condition, officials said.

Authorities said four people – including one innocent bystander – were shot at around 12:50 a.m. in the West Humboldt Park neighborhood. The shooting took place in the 900 block of North Karlov Avenue, according to police, who said two unknown offenders opened fire from inside a black Cadillac, striking three people who returned fire. That caused the car to crash, officials said, and the offenders fled. Three of the victims were a 30-year-old woman who was shot in the left calf, a 29-year-old man who suffered a graze wound to the chest and a 30-year-old man shot in the right ankle and left calf, officials said. The fourth victim was a 43-year-old man who was shot in the thigh, according to police, who said he was caught in the crossfire as he walked down the street. Authorities said all four victims were taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition.

A teenage girl was killed in a shooting that left five other people – including an 11-year-old boy – wounded in the Lawndale neighborhood just after 2:30 a.m., according to police. Authorities said 17-year-old Jahnae Patterson was part of a group standing on the sidewalk in the 1300 block of South Millard Avenue when two male offenders approached on foot and opened fire, shooting her in the face. She was pronounced dead on the scene, officials said. A 21-year-old woman was shot in the right arm and the back and taken in critical condition to Mount Sinai Medical Center, according to police. Two young boys, ages 11 and 14, were both shot in the left leg and taken to Mount Sinai in stable condition, authorities said. A 17-year-old boy was taken to Rush University Medical Center in stable condition with a gunshot wound to the right leg, according to police, and a 17-year-old girl was shot in the right arm and taken to Stroger Hospital in stable condition.

Another fatal shooting took place at approximately 4:15 a.m. in the North Austin neighborhood, according to police. The shooting took place in the 1600 block of North LeClaire Avenue, officials said. A 19-year-old man was shot in the back of the head and pronounced dead on the scene, according to police. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office identified him as Donald Norris, who lived in the 1500 block of South Harding Avenue in Lawndale. In that same shooting, a 37-year-old man was shot in the right calf and a 21-year-old man was shot in the upper right thigh, according to police, who said they were both taken to West Suburban Medical Center in stable condition. An “unknown male” was also shot, officials said, and taken to Stroger Hospital.

Five people were shot, one fatally, at approximately 6:50 a.m. in the South Austin neighborhood, according to police. The shooting took placed in the first block of North LeClaire Avenue, according to police, who said a 32-year-old man died after being shot four times: once on each side of his body and twice on the left side of his neck. He was taken to Stroger Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 7:16 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office, who identified him as Charles Green, of the 300 block of North Mayfield Avenue. A 30-year-old man was also in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the back of the head, according to police, and a 27-year-old woman was in stable condition after being shot twice in the left arm and left wrist. A 21-year-old woman sustained a graze wound to the left knee and was taken to West Suburban Medical Center where she was treated and released, officials said. From the same shooting, a 34-year-old man also walked into Stroger Hospital with a gunshot wound to the lower left knee, and was listed in good condition, according to police.

No one is in custody in connection with any of these shootings, according to police, who continue to investigate.
