Chicago Treats “Pop Up” at Emmy's

Local Chicago popcorn shop is official popcorn of Emmy's

Looks like local a Chicago business will be “popping” up at the Emmy’s this year.

Madly Pop’n, a 25-year old, family owned, gourmet popcorn shop in Oak Park, will be the official popcorn provider for the 36th Daytime Emmy Award "swag bags" given out at the ceremony this coming Sunday in L.A.

This year the swanky goodie bags -- typically provided only to celebrity presenters and VIPs and stocked with luxury goods -- will go to everyone in attendance.

Madly Pop'n President Erik Claesson said he is excited to spread the word of  his gourmet popcorn party favors.

“It's obviously really exciting to be a part of something that's big and famous like this," Claesson said. "This year they sort of spread the wealth a little and are giving the bags to everyone. So they may not be as glamorous, but people like Oprah and Bonnie Hunt will still be munching on our popcorn."

Claesson even created a new popcorn flavor, the Oak Park Mix, especially for the event. The Oak Park Mix incorporates cashews, filberts, pistachios, pecans, peanuts and popcorn flavored with caramel and white cheddar.

“I knew we had to include white cheddar because nobody wants cheezy fingerprints on their Vera Wang gown or Versace tuxedo,” Claesson said.

Madly Pop’n is the only place in the world that allows corporate logos or messages to be placed on a bag of gourmet popcorn. Claesson says that's what earned them their place in the swag bags.
