Weekend Construction to Suspend Part of CTA Green Line

Crews will continue working on the construction of the new Cermak-McCormick Place station between 1:40 a.m. Saturday through 11:40 p.m. Sunday

Service between the Roosevelt and 35th-Bronzeville-IIT stations on the Chicago Transit Authority's Green Line will be temporarily suspended over the weekend for a construction project.

Crews will continue working on the construction of the new Cermak-McCormick Place station between 1:40 a.m. Saturday through 11:40 p.m. Sunday, the transit agency said.

Service between the same stations will again be suspended next weekend, January 17 and 18.

The future Green Line station at Cermak will fill a gap in service between the existing Roosevelt and 35th-Bronzeville-IIT stations and provide access to rail transit for neighborhood residents and businesses, including McCormick Place.

The completed station will feature elevators, bike racks, "state-of-the-art" security, enclosed boarding platforms and three entrances, according to the CTA. Work on the $50 million construction project began last fall and is managed by the Chicago Department of Transportation.
