Chicago Suburb Named 4th Most Liberal City in the U.S.

Western suburb Maywood is the fourth most liberal city in the country, according to data released by nonpartisan political startup Crowdpac

One Illinois town cracked the top ten list of most liberal cities in the country, and it's not Chicago.

Maywood, Illinois, ranks as the nation's fourth most liberal city according to a nonpartisan political tech startup Crowdpac. Maywood is a western suburb located about ten miles from Chicago in Proviso Township, with a population of just under 25,000 people.

Crowdpac analyzed all political donations (from cities with a population over 6,000) to candidates on the federal and state level since 2002, and using their ideological rankings of candidates, assigned each city a score of ten on either side.

Maywood scored a 7.8 on the liberal scale, coming in fourth as the only city in the Midwest on the list. Vashon Island in Washington was first, followed by Ridgefield Park, New Jersey, and Rosendale in New York.

According to Crowdpac, the most conservative city in the U.S. is Hereford, Texas. The only Midwestern town on the conversative list, which contained five Texas towns, was Orange City, Iowa.

In their analysis, The Washington Post argues that analyzing political donations over other figures, like vote totals or registration data, "reveals which candidates people are actively supporting. That helps paint communities in different shades of red or blue."

Crowdpac also has a tool where you can look up any of the cities they analyzed to find out how liberal or conservative it may be.
