Spring? Cold Temps Expected for Wednesday's Equinox

Spring arrives at 6:02 a.m. Wednesday

The groundhog may not have seen its shadow this year, but Chicagoans will certainly be retreating into their burrows this upcoming week.

With Wednesday, the first day of spring only bringing a high of 26, puffy jackets and boots will still be seen making their way down Michigan Avenue

The city can expect a very slow warm-up into the weekend with a high of 40, but that is well below the average high for this time of year.

The normal high temperature for March 16-18 in Chicago is 47 degrees, according to the weather service.

Chicago weather must be making up for its blistering spring last year, when the city set four straight record high temperature days in March. March 16, 2012 had a high of 82 degrees, breaking the record high of 78 degrees set in 1945. On March 17, 2012, the recorded temperature was 81 degrees, seven degrees higher than the record set in 2009.
