Shootings Wound 12 Between Monday Afternoon, Tuesday Morning

No one was in custody by 6 a.m. Tuesday for any of the shootings

At least 12 people -- including two teenage boys -- were wounded in shootings on Chicago's south and west sides between Monday afternoon and early Tuesday morning.

  • A 16-year-old boy was shot early Tuesday in the East Garfield Park neighborhood on the west side.The boy told police he was shot in the 3300 block of West Maypole Avenue, and walked into Norwegian American Hospital about 2:10 a.m. with a gunshot wound to the leg, police said. The teen was listed in stable condition.
  • About an hour earlier, a man and woman were shot in the West Pullman neighborhood on Chicago far south side. At 1:35 a.m., the two were passengers in a vehicle in the 0 – 100 block of East 121st Street, when they were shot from another vehicle, police said. The driver, who was not injured, took them to Roseland Community Hospital. The 33-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and was transferred to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in critical condition, police said. Police said the man is affiliated with a gang. A 21-year-old woman was shot in the back, and was listed at Roseland Hospital in stable condition, police said.
  • About 11:15 p.m. Monday night, four men were standing on the sidewalk in the 3400 block of West 24th Street in the Little Village neighborhood, when a male opened fire from a nearby alley, striking each of the men, police said. The shooter then entered a dark-colored sedan, which sped eastbound on 24th Street. A 26-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to the buttocks and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was listed in  stable condition, police said. Also, an 18-year-old man was shot in the buttocks; a 38-year-old man was shot in the right thigh; and another 26-year-old man suffered a graze wound to the head, police said. All three were taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County in stable condition. The shooting is thought to be gang related, police said, as all four men are self-admitted gang members.
  • Shortly after 10 p.m., a 31-year-old man was shot in the West Pullman neighborhood. The man was standing in the 400 block of West 126th Place when a dark-colored SUV drove past and someone inside started firing, striking him in the right hip, police said. He was taken to Christ Medical Center in stable condition.
  • Less than an hour earlier, a 17-year-old boy was shot in the Englewood neighborhood after he was involved in an argument with another male on a Chicago Transit Authority bus, police said. When the teen exited the bus about 9:15 p.m. in the 5700 block of South Racine Avenue, he heard shots ring out and was struck in the leg, police said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital and is listed in good condition, police said.
  • About 3:25 p.m. Monday, two people were shot in the North Lawndale neighborhood on the west side. The two males -- whose ages were not immediately known -- were shot in the 1400 block of South Kostner Avenue, police said. One was shot in the leg and the other in the buttocks, police said. Both were listed in stable condition at Mount Sinai Hospital.
  • Earlier Monday afternoon, a 22-year-old man was shot in the Grand Boulevard neighborhood. The 22-year-old was shot in the 4700 block of South Wabash Avenue just before 12:30 p.m., but didn’t realize he’d received a graze wound until he was home, police said. He was treated by paramedics and did not require hospitalization.

No one was in custody by 6 a.m. Tuesday for any of the shootings.
