Boy, 14, Killed in Woodlawn Neighborhood Shooting

Police believe shooting was gang-related

A 14-year-old boy died Wednesday night after being shot while walking in Chicago's Woodlawn neighborhood.

The teen was walking with two other people on the 6100 block of South Vernon Avenue at about 8:20 p.m. when someone drove up in a white van up and shots were fired, police said.

The boy, who was not publicly identified as of 9:45 a.m., was shot in the head and pronounced dead about five minutes later.

No one else was injured in the shooting, which police believed to be gang-related.

Police had no one in custody.
