Chicago Sets Record for Coldest Start to November

The average temperature for the first 15 days of the month was 31.2 degrees, according to the National Weather Service

The National Weather Service is “congratulating” Chicagoans after the area set a new record for cold weather to kick off the month of November.

According to the NWS, Chicago’s average temperature for the two weeks between Nov. 1 and 15 was just 31.2 degrees. That cold snap helped the city to shatter the record for the coldest first half of November since records began to be kept in 1871.

The previous record had been set in 1991, when the average temperature in Chicago was 31.4 degrees.

The city and surrounding suburbs have already smashed a host of records in the opening weeks of November, including setting the all-time record for most snow on Veterans Day, the coldest high and low temperatures on Nov. 12, and several others.

Fortunately for Chicagoans, a bit of relief is in sight, as more seasonable temperatures are in the forecast for the coming week.
