Chicagoans are no strangers to brutal winter weather, and this season’s snow and frigid temps are proof.
January’s snow ranked as one of the city’s snowiest month on record, and dangerously cold temperatures shut down hundreds of area schools. But it appears Chicago students may not have it as bad as some when it comes to winter weather.
AccuWeather.com put together a list of the 10 snowiest colleges in the United States, ranked by a school's annual average snowfall, and Chicago schools apparently didn’t make the cut.
Michigan Technological University, located in Houghton, Mich., ranked as the snowiest college in the nation, with almost 200 inches of snow every year. In some years, the university received more 300 inches of snow.
Chicago’s snowiest winter on record was the 1978-1979 season, which totaled 89.7 inches of snow.
Other schools in the top 10 were University of Alaska at Fairbanks, Cornell, Western Michigan University, Southern New Hampshire University, University of Vermont, University of Minnesota at Duluth, State University of New York at Buffalo, University of Rochester, and Syracuse University.
