Student in Custody After Weapon Recovered in Chicago School: Police

A student has been taken into custody and charges are pending after police say a weapon was found inside a Chicago school Thursday.

The incident caused the school, located in the 500 block of North Sacramento, to be placed on lockdown for several hours during the afternoon while police responded to a call of a person with a gun, the Chicago Police Department confirmed.

The lockdown was lifted around 4 p.m. and a weapon was recovered from inside the school, police said.

West Town Academy is located on the same block, but police would not confirm which school was on lockdown.
