Chicago Rock ‘n' Roll 5K Race Canceled Due to Heat Concerns

A half-marathon will still be run Sunday, but racers will have the option to run a modified, shorter course

Forecasted hot temperatures for Saturday have caused Rock n’ Roll Marathon race organizers to cancel Saturday’s 5K race, officials say.

The 5K, originally slated for Saturday morning at 7 a.m., has been called off as temperatures could spike upwards of 95 degrees, and heat indices could potentially reach triple digits, according to forecasts.

The 10K race on Sunday, as well as the half marathon set for Sunday, are both still on, but runners who signed up for the half marathon will have the option of running a 7.3 mile course instead, organizers announced on social media.

Runners who finish the modified course will still receive a medal at the finish line, organizers say.
