Wet Conditions Threaten to Make for Icy Morning Commute

A Dense Fog Advisory remained in effect for McHenry, Boone and DeKalb counties until 10 a.m. warning of reduced visibility and areas of fog and freezing fog likely

Wet weather threatened to cause potentially slick roads as the morning rush hour got underway Friday.

Light rain descended on the area overnight as temperatures hovered near freezing, sending salt trucks out onto area roadways.

Making travel even more difficult, a Dense Fog Advisory remained in effect for McHenry, Boone and DeKalb counties until 10 a.m. The alert warned of reduced visibility and areas of fog and freezing fog likely.

“Below-freezing temperatures could cause some moisture to freeze on roads and walkways, so caution should be exercised this morning,” the alert read.

Police say a driver going too fast for conditions crashed on Lake Shore Drive overnight.

According to authorities, the sedan crashed through a guard rail just south of Addison, flipping onto its side.

The driver was able to exit the vehicle after the crash. Details on injuries weren't immediately known.
