St. Patrick's Celebration Kicks Off

It may still be winter, but things around Chicago got awfully green on Saturday with the official beginning of the city's annual St. Patrick's Day celebration.

The festivities began at 9 a.m. with a mass at Old St. Patrick's Church

Then, as they have for decades, crews poured dye into the Chicago River to turn it bright green.

Chicago's St. Patrick's Day Parade got under way at noon, kicking off at Balbo and Columbus and proceeding north on Columbus Drive to Monroe.

The parade was Richard Daley's final time leading the parade as mayor of the city of Chicago.

St. Patrick High School was the guest of honor.  The city's oldest all-male Catholic high school is celebrating its 150th year.
