Chicago Red Stars Trade Team USA Striker Christen Press in Blockbuster Deal

Press had 11 goals for the Red Stars last season

The NWSL’s Chicago Red Stars have traded Team USA striker Christen Press to the Houston Dash as part of a blockbuster three-team deal.

Press, who scored 11 goals for the Red Stars last season, will now join a Houston squad that will be looking to improve on a disappointing eighth place finish in the league last season.

In exchange, the Red Stars acquired one of the top players in the league, as NWSL leading scorer Samantha Kerr will now play in Chicago. Kerr led the league with 17 goals last season as a member of Sky Blue FC, and will now move into a primary scoring role with the Red Stars.

Sky Blue FC also acquired a big-name player in the swap, with U.S. superstar Carli Lloyd now joining the team.

Christen Press traded to the Houston Dash as part of a three-team trade that also sent Carli Lloyd to Sky Blue FC. Lloyd has missed time over the last two seasons because of injuries and Team USA commitments, but is still viewed as one of the top players in the sport and could be a big draw in her home state of New Jersey.

Other draft picks and compensation are currently being worked out between the three teams.
