Chicago police plan to hold a press conference Monday morning to address weekend gun violence in the city that left at least six people dead and more than a dozen others wounded.
Chief of Organized Crime Anthony Riccio is expected to offer an update on the status of investigations following the deadly weekend. Riccio is also set to give details on a series of raids on cell phone retailers, "which yielded guns, cell phone seizures & violations against 44 businesses," according to police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi.
Among those killed over the violent weekend, just before the holidays, was a 15-year-old boy who was fatally shot while delivering newspapers.
Brian Jasso was shot and killed just before 7 a.m. Sunday in the 5100 block of West 47th Street in the city’s LeClaire Courts neighborhood, authorities said. Investigators said there were newspapers in the car where Jasso's body was found and they believed Jasso may have been delivering them at the time of the shooting.
Jasso's mother said her son picked up the paper route so he could make money to buy his sister a gift for her birthday. Sunday morning, the teen was on the route with his mother's boyfriend, Erik Campeano, who said a white car flashed its high beams at their SUV and began following them at a high rate of speed. But when Campeano stopped the vehicle, someone opened fire.
Campeano said he pulled the SUV into a gas station and told Jasso to run, but he quickly realized the teen wasn't responding.
Jasso was fatally shot in the head and pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said a search for the gunman remains ongoing and have not yet released a potential motive for the shooting. Jasso's family said the teen did not have any enemies.
