Two Chicago police officers were taken to area hospitals on Wednesday evening after their squad car struck a tree, according to authorities.

The officers were responding to a call of shots fired at approximately 7:52 p.m. when their vehicle struck a tree in the 100 block of North Homan, according to a police spokesman.

Both officers were taken to local hospitals, and both were listed in stable condition, authorities said.
