About a dozen members of the Chicago Police Department boarded a bus for Springfield on Thursday morning to attend parole hearings of three inmates convicted in the deaths of three police officers.
Sgt. James Severin and Officer Anthony Rizzato were shot and killed in 1970 while walking near the former Cabrini-Green housing complex. Two men -- Johnnie Veal and George Knight -- were convicted for those crimes.
Officer Edward Barron was killed in 1973 by Joseph Bigsby.
The officers hope the parole board will keep the men behind bars.
