Chicago Police Officer Shot on City's Far South Side, Authorities Say

Chicago police say that an officer is being treated at an area hospital after he was shot during a traffic investigation on the city’s Far South Side Wednesday night. NBC 5’s Natalie Martinez has the breaking details.

Chicago police say that an officer is being treated at an area hospital after he was shot during a traffic investigation on the city’s Far South Side Wednesday night.

According to authorities, the shooting occurred at approximately 8:30 p.m. near the intersection of 92nd Place and Stony Island Avenue, located in the city’s Calumet Heights neighborhood.

Chicago Police Supt. David Brown said in a press conference Wednesday night that the officer was shot in the leg after an exchange of gunfire with a man inside the vehicle, who was shot in the torso.

Both the officer and offender are being treated at separate area hospitals for non-life threatening injuries.

Brown said police have a person of interest in custody as of Wednesday night.
