Officer Inadvertently Fires Gun, Hits Water Pipe in Cop Shop

There was a bit of flooding inside a South Loop police station on Monday night after a police officer inadvertently fired a gun and hit a water pipe, officials said.

The resulting flow of water damaged some office equipment.

The incident occurred just before 10 p.m. inside the Central District station at 1718 S. State St., police said. Nobody was hurt, but the officer in question is likely to face disciplinary action, police said.

Several prisoners in the station’s holding area were transferred to another station after the building was left without water overnight, police said.
