Chicago Police Exchange Gunfire With Suspect

Police officers exchanged gunfire with a suspect on Chicago's Far South Side early Monday, authorities said.

The incident took place at around 1:07 a.m. in the 10100 block of South LaSalle Street in the city's Fernwood neighborhood, according to Chicago police.

Officers responded to a call of shots fired and pursued a suspect on foot, at which time shots were fired both by and at police, officials said.

Neither the officers nor the offender were hit, according to police, who set up a perimeter to search for the suspect or suspects. 

No one is in custody in connection with the incident and authorities continue to investigate.
