Police Issue Warning After Sexual Assaults on CTA Train, in Station

The two assaults occurred in late March

Chicago police have issued a warning to residents after a pair of sexual assaults on CTA properties over a five-day span.

According to police, the first incident occurred at the Orange Line stop in the 1000 block of West Lake Street on March 21, and the other incident occurred near the Green Line stop in the 0-100 block of West Van Buren Street on March 26. Both incidents occurred around 1 p.m. in the afternoon, police say.

In the first incident, two men followed a woman onto an elevator at the CTA stop and asked her for money. When she refused, they began kissing her and then touched her genitals before fleeing the scene.

In the second incident, a man asked a woman for food while riding on a Green Line train. After the woman gave the man food, he touched her genital area, took her cell phone, and fled the train.

The suspects in the first case are described as two African-American men, between the ages of 26 and 34 years old and standing between 5-foot-5 and 5-foot-8. Both men were wearing black skull caps at the time of the incident.

In the second incident, the suspect is described as an African-American man, standing between 5-foot-5 and 5-foot7 and weighing between 120 and 140 pounds. The man had black hair, a black skull cap, black jacket, and black jeans.

Chicago police encourage residents to remain aware of their surroundings, and in the event of an assault to remain calm and remember any unique physical characteristics of the suspect.

Anyone with information on either of the assaults is encouraged to call Area Central Detectives at 312-747-8380.
