A man was taken into custody Thursday and wanted for questioning in the disappearance of his grandfather.

A Florida fugitive was found and taken into custody Thursday by Chicago Police at a homeless shelter.

Garret Kern, 23, of Cape Coral, Fla., was wanted for questioning in the disappearance of his 80-year-old grandfather, police said.

The Great Lakes Fugitive Task Force, made up of CPD officers, detectives and U.S. Marshals, had information that Kern may be in the Chicago area and may be living on the streets, authorities said.

The task force searched homeless shelters and found Kern at a shelter in the 1400 block of South Canal, according to police.

Kern is being held on two outstanding warrants from Florida and LaSalle County, Ill., police reported.

Kern is to appear at Central Bond Court Saturday at 26th and California.
