How to Submit Your Tree to Be Chicago's Official Christmas Tree

It's the most wonderful time of the year - well, not yet. But holiday preparations are underway, as the search for Chicago's official 2019 Christmas tree is now on.

Officials announced Thursday that the city is accepting applications for the tree to grace Millennium Park, serving as Chicago's "official" tree for the holiday season.

Submissions must be at least 55 feet tall, located less than 100 miles from the city's Loop and preferably a spruce or fir (pine trees are ineligible).

To nominate a tree, submissions must include the owner’s name, address, phone and email along with a brief description on why the tree should be Chicago's offical Christmas tree.

Entries must also include two photos of the tree - one from afar and one up close - as well as any additional background information as to what makes the tree special.

Applications must be submitted via email to DCASE@cityofchicago.org or by mail to the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events at ATTN: Christmas Tree Contest, 78 E. Washington Street, Chicago, IL, 60602.

The family of the selected tree will have the opportunity to "flip the switch" at the 106th Annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony on Nov. 22 in Millennium Park, officials said.
