16-Year-Old Girl in Serious Condition After Morgan Park Shooting

The girl was sitting in a car when two other people got into a dispute and opened fire

A 16-year-old girl was seriously injured on Sunday night when she was struck by an errant gun shot in the city’s Morgan Park neighborhood, according to Chicago police.

Police say that the girl was sitting in a vehicle in the 1100 block of West 110th Place when a nearby dispute over a parking spot turned violent. One of the men involved in the dispute pulled out a gun and opened fire, missing his intended target but striking the girl, according to authorities.

The girl was struck in the chest by the gunshot, and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where she is currently listed in serious condition.

According to a Chicago police spokesman, no suspect is in custody in the shooting, but the department has “promising leads” in their investigation.
