Magnificent Mile to Close for Half-Marathon, 5K Race

Registration for Aug. 31 race now available at WomensHalfChicago.com

The "Chicago Women’s Half Marathon" takes on a new name in 2014 to include a major new addition to the race's course, organizers announced Thursday.

The 13.1 mile race, scheduled for Aug. 31 -- the Sunday before Labor Day -- will for the first time include a 13-block portion of Michigan Avenue, from East Delaware Place to West Randolph Street, as the course centerpiece.

Registration for the new "Magnificent Mile Chicago Women’s Half Marathon & 5K" is available online at WomensHalfChiacgo.com.

"This will be a fabulous fusion of fitness, fashion and fun,” said Dave Zimmer, the President and CEO of Fleet Feet Sports - Chicago. "Given that the Half Marathon is the fastest-growing and most popular race distance in the world right now, and that women make up a full 60 percent of its participants, the event will offer active women yet another reason to spend Labor Day weekend in downtown Chicago with family and friends."

The event, which has been held earlier in the summer the previous two years, is expected to draw more than 10,000 women.
