A record-setting number of runners finished this year’s Bank of America Chicago Marathon despite rainy conditions and chilly temperatures, race organizers announced Sunday night.
According to organizers, 44,571 runners finished the marathon, setting a new record for the 41-year-old race. Last year’s race, the 40th anniversary of the event, had 44,508 finishers.
It was a banner year for the race, as British runner Mo Farah won the men’s race in 2:05:11, the fastest winning time since 2014. Kenya’s Brigid Kosgei won the women’s race in 2:18:35, falling just shy of last year’s pace set by Ethiopia’s Tirunesh Dibaba.
