Daniel Romanchuk Wins 2018 Bank of America Chicago Marathon Men's Wheelchair Race

Daniel Romanchuk of the University of Illinois Wheelchair Racing Team has completed a stunning victory in the 2018 Bank of America Chicago Marathon men’s wheelchair race.

The 20-year-old beat out top contenders and past champions Marcel Hug and Kurt Fearnley in the race, finishing with an official time of 1:31:34.

"Gave it all I got and my arms were starting to cramp up just give it anything I had left.

He had previously finished in the top 10 in Chicago and was ranked 14th in the world last year.

It was a tight race heading into the final miles, but Romanchuk hung on and sprinted his way past Hug in the final meters.

"It’s always a wonderful experience racing with these guys," he said. "So much experience in this field, just being able to be in this - I’ve grown up seeing these people on the global stage and it’s amazing to push with them."
