Good news for runners hoping to set a course record at Sunday's Bank of America Chicago Marathon: The weather looks like it will cooperate.

NBC 5 forecast models show a cool, cloudy morning with temperatures in the low 50s for the start of the race. Scattered light showers will be possible but not until early afternoon, making for a rain-free sendoff for the marathon's elite runners.

The afternoon likely will be cloudy with light showers at times as temperatures gradually climb into the upper 50s and low 60s.

Looking to squeeze in a last-minute jog before Sunday? Friday could see some lake-effect sprinkles and clouds in the afternoon. The skies clear by Friday night, but temperatures could dip as low as the mid-30s in the suburbs and upper 40s in Chicago, creating frost in some areas.

Cool temperatures continue Saturday morning, and some lake-effect clouds and rain are still possible. Temperatures climb to between 55 and 60 degrees around mid-day.

Don't forget your umbrella on your way to work next week. Periods of rain are likely on Monday, and a few isolated thunderstorms are possible.

The heaviest rain could come in the evening and early at night with an inch or more possible.
