Chicago Man Wins $20M Prize on First Scratch-Off

The top prize was $20,000 a week for 20 years, resulting in a total of $20,800,000

A Chicago man just won $20,000 a week for 20 years thanks to a persistent co-worker and his first-ever $20 scratch ticket.

The lucky winner had been playing the Lucky Day Lotto for 18 years but never won a big prize, according to Illinois Lottery officials. The man’s co-worker consistently tried to get him to purchase an instant ticket, but he never did – until now.

The man and his co-worker were at Plaza Food & Liquor, at 3459 W. Ogden Ave., when the co-worker convinced him to scratch his first $20 ticket, which turned out to be a winning 20x20 ticket.

“I plan to buy a house and start my own business,” he told the Illinois Lottery. “This winning ticket is my chance at living the American dream.”

The top prize was $20,000 a week for 20 years, resulting in a total of $20,800,000.

The retailer received a bonus of $208,000.
