Chicago Man Dragged During Carjacking on South Side Sunday

A Chicago man is in an area hospital after he was dragged for a block and a half during a carjacking on the city’s South Side on Sunday morning.

According to authorities, 25-year-old Andre Burt was at a gas station in the 7600 block of S. South Chicago Avenue at approximately 12:15 a.m. when he went inside the building. While he was inside, he saw a white GMC pull up, and a person got out of the vehicle.

That person then got into Burt’s 2009 Ford Fusion and took off, according to police.

Burt then ran out of the gas station and grabbed onto the rear passenger window of the white GMC to keep it from fleeing the scene, police said. The GMC then took off, dragging him along with it. A person inside the SUV then pulled out a gun and pointed it at him, and Burt let go of the window at that time.

The man sustained abrasions and lacerations to his feet, legs, and hands, according to police, and was taken to Jackson Park Hospital in stable condition.

“He has a big scar on his palm and third-degree burns on the bottom of both of his feet,” Burt’s fiancée Symone Butler said.

Burt’s family has shared several photos of him in the hospital, and they’re asking for the public’s help in identifying the men responsible for stealing his vehicle. Burt’s family says that he uses the car for Grubhub and Instacar to help pay bills, and although he’s filed a police report, authorities have not recovered his vehicle.
