Sears Holdings released a new list of 40 more stores slated to shut down in February, and two Illinois locations are on it.
The Kmart at 3443 W. Addison St. in Chicago and a Kmart at 3250 Clear Lake Rd. in Springfield will be among those closing next year as part of a Chapter 11 reshuffling and consolidation process.
Liquidation sales are expected to begin late next week, the Hoffman Estates-based company announced Thursday.
The Chicago store, located off the Kennedy Expressway, is the anchor in a large lot in Avondale.
“It means a lot you know? Cheaper prices, very competitive...” said shopper Mervyn Vizcarra. “It’s just a shame.”
The Kmart is known for offering big Black Friday and holiday deals. It remains unclear how or if those shopping events will be affected by the impending closure.
The latest round of store closings is in addition to 142 locations previously announced. The 142 other stores will all be closed by the end of the year.
