Woman Shot, Killed Two Blocks from Home

Danielle Simmons, 19, was shot in the neck while standing with a crowd of people

A 19-year-old Chicago Heights woman died early Saturday after being shot while standing with a crowd of people near her home.

Danielle Simmons, 19, of the 400 block of West 16th Street, was pronounced dead at St. James Hospital shortly after 1 a.m.

She was standing outside with a group of people about two blocks from her home when she was shot in the neck. Her death has been ruled a homicide.

"She was just staying focused and trying to get a job, moving along, not being out here hanging with the wrong people," said her father, Milton Patterson.

Police are investigating but so far no one is in custody.
