Lots of tricks and not so many treats. It's Halloween season, and the doors to some of Chicago's haunted houses are open.
Here is a list of some of the scariest attractions in the Chicago area.
13th Floor
When: 7-10 p.m. Sunday-Thursday and 7-11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays until Nov. 9
Admission: $19.99 to $32.99, depending on the day of the week
Where: 1940 George St., Melrose Park
13th Floor, one of Chicago's most-visited haunted houses, has two new themes this year: Creature Feature and The Other Side, featuring scary characters, monsters from the dark and Hollywood-level sets and effects.
Midnight Terror
When: 7-10 p.m. Sundays and Thursdays, 7-11p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, with more dates the week of Halloween
Admission: $24.99 online, $27 onsite
Where: 5520 W. 111th St., Oak Lawn
Explore 26,000 square feet of twists and turns from "Factory of Malum," "Black Oak Grove" and ending with a tread through "Chainsaw Alley."
Scream Scene
When: 7-10 p.m. weekends in October starting Oct. 4
Admission: $12
Where: 4701 Oakton St., Skokie
Skokie Water Playground, abandoned for the season, becomes host to the most frightening experience in Skokie. With its chainsaw maniacs and insane clown maze, Scream Scene has been terrifying visitors since 1997.

Statesville Haunted Prison
When: 7-10 p.m. Thursdays, Sundays and Halloween; 7-11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays
Admission: $30 general admission
Where: 17250 S. Weber Road, Lockport
Try making your way through 44 rooms with more than 200 convicts and creatures locked inside the prison for 40 minutes.
HellsGate Haunted House
When: 7-10 p.m. Thursdays, Sundays and Halloween; 7-11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays
Admission: General Admission starts at $30
Where: 3101 Canal St., Lockport. Visitors should park at the Lockport Metra Lot, 1300 South State St. After parking, guests will take a shuttle to the grounds.
Hidden deep in the woods, HellsGate is a multi-level mansion filled with secret passages, giant slides, ghastly secrets, undead abominations, really nervous groundskeepers and a darkness that the gate can no longer contain! After the shuttle bus takes the audience down a dark and desolate road, they will be dropped in a vacant lot and instructed to venture on to the torch lit path through the forest and cemetery in order to find HellsGate Haunted House.
Evil Intentions
When: Fridays to Sundays, plus Oct. 24, 29, 30 and 31. 7:30 p.m.-midnight Fridays and Saturdays, 7:30-10 p.m. Sundays and weekdays
Admission: General admission starts at $30
Where: 900 Grace St., Elgin
Inside the abandoned home of Elgin Casket Company, this building has allegedly seen murders, cult activities and other occurrences. Visitors are taken through multiple levels of the 55,000-square-foot paranormal spot.
Dungeon of Doom
When: 7 p.m.-midnight weekends
Admission: General admission starts at $30. Available online or cash only onsite
Where: 600 29th St., Zion
One hour through 42,000 square feet of monsters and then experience an additional feature that comes with general admission, "Buried Dead or Alive."
Massacre Haunted House
When: 7-10 p.m. Thursdays, 7-11:30 p.m. Fridays, 6:30 p.m.-midnight Saturdays
Admission: General admission starts at $25.99
Where: 299 Montgomery Road, Montgomery
Massacre is a custom-built haunted house that allows visitors to walk through over 20,000 square feet of attraction in groups of six to seven. This year, there are over 60 rooms with 100 actors.
Reapers Realm
When: Open Fridays through Sundays beginning Oct. 11, plus Oct. 30-31. 7 to 11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, 7 to 10 p.m. Sundays
Admission: Tickets start at $10. For all-access plus a carnival ride, the ticket is $30.
Where: 626 177th St., Hammond
Inside a 1920s stone mansion, the Reapers Realm offers three floors of terror for visitors and has been entertaining the region for more than 25 years.
