3 Dead, at Least 8 Wounded in Sunday Shootings

At least 11 people have been shot, and three men are dead in gun violence across the city of Chicago on Sunday.

At approximately 3:30 a.m., a 26-year-old man was discovered lying on the sidewalk with gunshot wounds to his chest and right leg, according to police. The man, who was found in the 2200 block of South Hoyne, was pronounced dead at the scene, and police are still investigating.

An hour and a half later, another man was shot and killed in the 8700 block of South Halsted, according to police. The man, 46, was shot in the chest and later succumbed to his injures, according to police.

The city’s most recent shooting occurred at approximately 9 p.m. in the 2400 block of East 87th Street, according to police. A 32-year-old man was standing on a sidewalk when a man walked up to him and opened fire, striking him in the head and back.

The man was taken to University of Chicago Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. 

In another shooting, a pair of men were walking out of a building in the 3300 block of West Madison at approximately 2 a.m. when they were shot by an unknown assailant.

A 22-year-old man was shot in the left buttocks and is in stable condition at Mount Sinai, but a 24-year-old man was shot in the chest and pelvis and was rushed to Stroger in critical condition.

No one is in custody, and Area North Detectives are still investigating the shooting.

Here are the rest of the shootings that took place Sunday:

  • A 29-year-old man was shot in the neck and back while sitting in a car in the 900 block of West 94th Street at approximately 12:24 a.m. His condition was unknown after he was taken to University of Chicago Hospital.
  • In the 3900 block of West Chicago at approximately 1:54 a.m., a 35-year-old man was standing on a sidewalk when he heard gunshots and felt pain on his left side. The man was taken to West Suburban Hospital in stable condition with graze wounds to his left hand and left leg, according to police.
  • At approximately 2:15 a.m. in the 6600 block of South Evans, a 29-year-old man was walking on the sidewalk when he was shot in the right leg. He was taken to University of Chicago in stable condition, according to police.
  • A 28-year-old man was shot in both legs while he was standing on a sidewalk in the 13500 block of South Avenue at approximately 2:48 a.m. He was taken to Roseland Hospital in stable condition, police said.
  • In the 4800 block of West Washington at approximately 4 a.m., a man was standing on a sidewalk when another man emerged from a gangway and fired shots, striking him in the right hip. The man was taken to Loyola Hospital in good condition, police said.
  • Between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m., a man says he was at a party and later woke up with a gunshot wound to his right buttocks. The man was drinking and does not recall the circumstances of the shooting, and was listed in serious condition at St. Francis Hospital.
