3 Dead, at Least 5 Wounded in Saturday Gun Violence

On Saturday, three people have been killed and at least five more wounded in shootings across the city of Chicago.

The city's most recent fatal shooting occurred at approximately 8:20 p.m. Saturday night, police said. A 40-year-old man was in the 7600 block of South Rhodes when a man got out of a vehicle and opened fire, striking him multiple times. 

The man, who sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the head, was pronounced dead at University of Chicago Hospital. 

Just after 1:30 a.m., two men were standing in the 7200 block of South Western when shots rang out. A 25-year-old man was shot in the right hip, and was pronounced dead at Christ Hospital a short time later.

Another 25-year-old man was shot in the left arm and the back, and was listed in stable condition. Authorities are still investigating the shooting, and no arrests have been made.

Later in the morning, officers responded to a call of a “person down” in the 4500 block of South Champlain at approximately 6 a.m. When they arrived on the scene, they found a man, whose age is likely in his early-to-mid-20’s, face down on the street with multiple gunshot wounds.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.

Here are the other shootings reported in the city of Chicago on Saturday:

  • A 25-year-old man was standing on a sidewalk in the 1100 block of North Mason at approximately 12:22 a.m. when a person in a black SUV fired shots at him. He was hit in the right leg, and brought himself to Western Suburban Hospital, where he’s listed in stable condition.
  • In the 2300 block of North Milwaukee at approximately 3:04 a.m., a 34-year-old man was standing in the street when he was hit by multiple shots. He was struck in the left arm and abdomen, and was taken to Illinois Masonic in stable condition.
  • A 12-year-old boy was caught in the crossfire when two men began shooting at one another in the 300 block of East 130th Street. The boy was shot in the leg, but was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital in good condition.
  • Just after 8 p.m. in the 2100 block of West Jackson, a 45-year-old man was shot. The man was standing on the street when two men got out of a light colored sedan and opened fire, striking him multiple times. He was taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition.
