Girl Scouts of the United States turns 100 years old, and Chicago's anniversary celebration takes off at noon Monday at Daley Plaza. Ald. Fioretti will proclaim March 12 “Girl Scout Day.”
Juliette Gordon Low started the organization 100 years ago in Savannah, Ga. At the time, 18 girls made up the Girls Scouts. Now, there are 3.2 million active members nationwide.
The Girls Scouts invited all former members and the public to join in the Daley Plaza festivities, as CEO Maria Wayne said it will be a celebration of historic proportions. The organization said it hopes the free event will mark the loudest version of the Girl Scout Promise in the history of Chicago.
Those who attend are encouraged to wear green as part of the party and join in a sing-along of Girl Scouts favorites.
