Chicago Fashion Designer Cleared of Sex Assault Charges

A local fashion designer has been acquitted of charges that he sexually assaulted a Streeterville woman last year.

Elhadi Gueye, who owns and runs the boutique Haj Designs, was arrested in August 2013, the Chicago Sun-Times reported previously.

At the time of his arrest, prosecutors claimed he forced himself on a 29-year-old woman after she invited him for dinner in her apartment on Aug. 27.

However, his attorneys called the accusations “baseless” and said she fabricated the story in order to extort money from Gueye, according to a statement from the Law Offices of Rotunno & Giralamo, which represented him.

On July 25, a jury deliberated about an hour before acquitting Gueye on all charges, according to court records and the statement from his attorneys.

Known professionally as “Haj,” Gueye has dressed the late Bernie Mac, San Antonio Spur Tony Parker and Mike Tyson, the Sun-Times previously reported.
