Chicago Cubs Land 2 Prospects on MLB's Top 100

Nico Hoerner and Miguel Amaya both made the cut for the Cubs

MLB Pipeline released its list of the top 100 prospects in the game on Saturday evening, and a pair of Chicago Cubs prospects made the cut this season.

Infielder Nico Hoerner, who was drafted by the Cubs in the first round of last season’s MLB Draft, checked in at number 100 on the list, and catcher Miguel Amaya was ranked as the 94th best prospect in the game by the publication.

Hoerner was limited to only 60 plate appearances at the minor league level, but he excelled in the Arizona Fall League, racking up nine extra base hits and driving in 11 RBI in just 94 plate appearances for the Mesa Solar Sox.

Hoerner is expected to begin the season with Class A Myrtle Beach, but could quickly move up the team’s minor league chain.

Amaya, who signed with the Cubs out of Panama, is entering his fourth season with the organization, having spent all of last season with the Class A South Bend Cubs. In 116 games, Amaya hit 12 home runs and drove in 52 RBI, and while he did strike out 91 times he did also draw 50 walks, giving him a .349 on-base percentage for the season.
