The Chicago Cubs and Milwaukee Brewers have both played 162 games this season, but they’ll need one more to determine the winner of the National League Central Division, as both teams won on Sunday afternoon.
The Brewers, who won six straight games to tie up the race on Saturday, thumped the Detroit Tigers at Miller Park, punching their ticket into the tie-breaker game.
As for the Cubs, they gave up two runs in the first inning to the St. Louis Cardinals, but they got their offense going too, blowing out the Redbirds to finish in a tie with the Brewers atop the Central Division heap.
Willson Contreras hit his first home run since August in the game, and Anthony Rizzo went 4-for-4 and scored three runs in the victory.
Now, the two teams will play in a one-game tie-breaker contest on Monday afternoon, with first pitch slated for 12:05 p.m. at Wrigley Field. Ticket information has been released by the team, as fans can purchase seats beginning at 7:30 p.m. Sunday night.
Jose Quintana is expected to pitch for the Cubs, and Jhoulys Chacin will pitch for the Brewers. The game will air on ESPN, and will be followed by the National League West tiebreaker game between the Colorado Rockies and Los Angeles Dodgers.
