The Chicago Cubs may have beaten the Washington Nationals on Thursday, but the team also suffered a potentially serious setback as relief pitcher Pedro Strop left the game due to injury.

Strop, who has been serving as the team’s closer while Brandon Morrow has been on the disabled list, was batting in the top of the 10th inning when he was injured while running out a ground ball.

Cubs manager Joe Maddon told media after the game that Strop will have an MRI on his leg Friday, but that he anticipates that the hurler will be out “a while” due to the ailment.

Morrow is potentially rejoining the Cubs’ bullpen next week, but with six more games before the team’s next day off, it is unclear who will come in for save situations. Justin Wilson is a potential option, but other hurlers like Steve Cishek and Carl Edwards Jr. have struggled mightily in recent weeks, leaving their potential status as a closer as a serious question mark.
