The Milwaukee Brewers had two different opportunities to acquire starting pitcher Matt Harvey from the Cincinnati Reds, but according to a report, they’ve swung and missed on both occasions.
According to a report from Cincinnati Enquirer scribe Bobby Nightengale Jr., Harvey will not be traded before a Friday deadline, and will pitch against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field on Friday afternoon.
Harvey, who has a 6-5 record in 17 starts with the Reds since being acquired from the Mets earlier this season, has pitched much better in recent weeks, but it appears that the Brewers will not make the move to bolster their pitching rotation ahead of the August waiver deadline.
The Brewers have been looking for starting pitching help as they try to keep pace with the Cubs, but still have the 10th-best starting ERA in all of baseball at 3.93.
Friday opens with the Cubs holding a three game lead over the St. Louis Cardinals and a three-and-a-half game lead on the Brewers in the Central race. The North Siders’ odds of making the playoffs currently stand at 97.3 percent, according to ESPN.
