The Chicago Cubs fell behind early and stayed behind on Saturday afternoon at Wrigley Field, as Zach Greinke and the Arizona Diamondbacks picked up an easy 6-0 victory.

Greinke pitched six innings of shutout baseball, striking out four batters and allowing just three hits, and the Cubs’ offense couldn’t get anything going as their winning streak came to an end at the Friendly Confines.

Cubs starter Yu Darvish flailed early in the game, giving up three runs in the first two innings, but managed to get through five innings without giving up any more scoring chances to the Diamondbacks. He struck out seven batters and walked three in the game, but was tagged with the loss.

Allen Webster struggled in his relief appearance, giving up three runs and scattering six hits as the Cubs fell.

The Cubs fell behind almost immediately in the game, as Eduardo Escobar and David Peralta hit back-to-back home runs into the right field bleachers to give the Diamondbacks a 2-0 lead in the first inning. They extended the lead in the second as Jarrod Dyson hit a sacrifice fly, but Darvish was able to finish off the frame without giving up any more runs.

That 3-0 score held until the sixth inning, but Webster ran into trouble as he gave up a two-run home run to John Ryan Murphy to make it a 6-0 game. That’s all the Diamondbacks’ pitching staff needed, as they cruised to a shutout victory that evens up the series between the two clubs.

The rubber match of the three-game set will take place Sunday afternoon at Wrigley Field, with Tyler Chatwood taking the ball for Joe Maddon’s squad.
