Chicago Cubs 3B Kris Bryant Set to Begin Rehab Stint

Bryant has been out of the lineup since July 23 with a shoulder ailment

Chicago Cubs infielder Kris Bryant is nearing a return, and the star will begin his rehab assignment on Monday.

Bryant, who has been out of the lineup with a shoulder problem, will join the Iowa Cubs for their Monday game against Omaha, and is expected to travel to Des Moines with the team as they start a home series on Tuesday.

The slugger has not played for the Cubs since July 23, but has been taking batting practice and been working out at Wrigley Field during his absence from the lineup.

It is unclear when Bryant would return to the mix if he’s given a clean bill of health, but MLB rosters can expand to up to 40 players beginning on Sept. 1, so the Cubs could remain patient with him and then activate him without having to make a corresponding roster move if they choose to do so.
