Cubs Star Kris Bryant Takes Batting Practice in Downtown Chicago

Chicago Cubs superstar Kris Bryant made some waves in downtown Chicago Thursday - literally.

That’s because Bryant, who has an endorsement deal with energy drink-maker Red Bull, took batting practice along the Chicago River as part of the launch of a new limited-edition can of the beverage, which will feature the slugger's likeness.

Bryant, who performed a similar feat of power hitting in 2017, hit home runs to kayakers on the river, and hundreds of fans came out to watch the display.

The Chicago Cubs will be back at Wrigley Field until Friday, but star infielder Kris Bryant was back to work a day early along the Chicago River. NBC 5’s Mike Berman explains.

"This is just perfect," Bryant said. "Summertime Chicago, everybody's on their lunch break and showing up, it was such a cool thing to do."

Actor Thomas Ian Nicholas, who played pitcher Henry Rowengartner in the 1994 film “Rookie of the Year,” also threw out a ceremonial first pitch at the event.

Bryant has some ideas of where he can take the batting practice show to next, as he would like to do it in a slightly more crowded location.

"I think it would be super cool to be in Wrigleyville," he said with a laugh. "Just right in the middle of the street. Take out some windows."
