Cubs Provide Update on Kris Bryant's Ankle Injury

Chicago Cubs third baseman is dealing with a moderately sprained right ankle, but the team isn’t ruling out a return this season.

According to MLB.com’s Jordan Bastian and other reporters in Pittsburgh for the Cubs’ game against the Pirates, an MRI on Bryant’s ankle revealed the sprain, and the team will continue an aggressive treatment plan through the final week of the season.

Bryant suffered the injury while running the bases during Sunday’s game against the St. Louis Cardinals. He was attempting to beat out a throw to first base when his foot slid across the bag, causing him to roll his ankle as he went over the base.

Bryant had to be helped off the field by teammates, including Anthony Rizzo, who is dealing with his own sprained ankle.

Bryant will be replaced by Ian Happ at third base for Tuesday’s game, with first pitch scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
