Jim Hickey Steps Down as Pitching Coach of Cubs

Hickey signed with the Cubs prior to the 2018 season

Chicago Cubs pitching coach Jim Hickey is stepping down from his position, citing personal reasons.

Hickey, who was hired by the Cubs prior to the 2018 season after the firing of Chris Bosio, informed the team of his decision on Monday, according to Cubs President Theo Epstein.

“Jim Hickey notified us yesterday of his decision to step down as pitching coach and leave the organization for personal reasons,” Epstein said in a statement. “We thank Jim for his season with the Cubs and his positive impact on our pitchers. Jim has our full support and we all wish him well.”

Hickey is the second coach to change on the coaching staff, as hitting coach Chili Davis was relieved of his duties earlier this offseason.

The Cubs are searching for Hickey’s replacement.
