Chicago Cubs INF Javier Baez Makes History vs. Phillies

Baez hit his 30th home run of the season in Sunday's win over the Phillies

Chicago Cubs infielder Javier Baez hit his 30th home run and drove in his 100th RBI with the same swing of the bat on Sunday, and that prodigious blow landed him in an exclusive club.

Baez, who is having a career year and is generating plenty of MVP buzz for the Cubs, became the first player in baseball history to record 30 home runs and 100 RBI in a season in which he played in 30 or more games at both shortstop and second base, according to MLB Network.

Baez is also just the fourth middle infielder in Cubs history to reach the 30 home run plateau, joining Ryne Sandberg, Ernie Banks, and Roger Hornsby in that group.

Finally, Baez became just the third Cubs player to ever hit 30 home runs and steal 20 or more bases in a season, joining Sandberg, who did it in 1990, and Sammy Sosa, who achieved the feat in 1995 and 1997.

Baez and the Cubs will now take their history-making road show to Milwaukee, where they will begin a  three-game series against the Brewers on Monday afternoon.
