The Chicago Cubs had a rough final week of the season, but they did give their fans something to smile about as Ian Happ took down National League Player of the Week honors.

Happ, who was called up to the Cubs in late July after starting the season in the minor leagues, finished his big league season with a flourish, smacking four home runs and driving in 10 RBI’s while posting a 1.636 OPS during the final six days of the season.

Happ batted .455 in those contests, according to the Cubs’ PR department.

In 140 at-bats this season, Happ batted .264 with 11 home runs and 30 RBI’s, posting an OPS of nearly .900 in those contests.

Happ’s status with the Cubs in 2020 is certainly up in the air as the team eyes major changes, and his late season surge could help the team if they end up deciding to part ways with him. He could be an attractive asset due to his ability to play multiple infield positions and outfield spots, but the Cubs could also opt to keep him if they decide not to re-sign Nicholas Castellanos or decide to trade Kyle Schwarber.
