Cubs Will Foot $388K Bill for Grant Park Rally Repairs: Official

The Cubs have had their day and now they must pay.

The World Series champs will have to pony up $388,000 to repair Grant Park after the colossal rally held there to celebrate the team’s momentous win, Chicago Parks District director of communication Jessica Maxey-Faulkner confirmed Wednesday.

The Chicago Cubs did not immediately respond to request for comment on the bill.

After an estimated 5 million people attended the celebration earlier this month, the Cubs franchise will pay for trash pickup, repairs to fences, aerating grass and re-sodding Lower Hutchinson Field, Maxey-Faulkner said.

The celebration earlier this month started at 7:15 a.m. as city officials dyed the Chicago River Cubbie blue. The huge parade that followed culminated with a rally in Grant Park's Lower Hutchinson Field.

"The one thing that’s been proven true over time, in baseball and in life, is that human beings can accomplish more for others and for the group than they can for themselves," Chicago Cubs president Theo Epstein told the Grant Park crowd.

Fans began gathering at 2 a.m. outside Grant Park to get the best seat in the house to hear from Joe Maddon, Tom Ricketts, Anthony Rizzo, David Ross and the rest of the Cubs.

"I love you guys," Kyle Schwarber told the crowd. "We're World Champs. Let's do it again next year!"

With that kind of determination, maybe next year the Cubs can simply tell the city to put it on their tab.
